First thing you need to do is to sit down and relax. I would sit down with the birthday child and talk about what kind of party they would like this year. Theme parties are always very popular and make a good starting point if your child has a particular interest like: magic, Harry Potter, Pokeman and so many others. You can then check with your local party supply store where you can purchase napkins, plates, decorations and games to go with that theme. There are also many bakeries and super markets that carry themed cakes, to make your celebration easier.
Where are you going to have the party? Will this be in your home, in the backyard or would you rather go to a restaurant or let a party place handle the day. Many pizza parlors offer party rooms and have activity centers for this occasion. There are also many “Chuckie Cheese” type of restaurants geared for just this purpose.
If you think you would rather have someone else do the clean-up, I suggest that you book this as far in advance as possible to avoid any disappointment. The same goes for booking any professional entertainment, book now and get who you really want!
This is a very special day for your child and your family. Plan ahead to make it easy and memorable.
Food…
The best time I have found to serve refreshments is after the entertainment. Most parents realize that kids eat what they want. Here are just a few ideas to make what they want fun.
PIZZA!!!!
CHILDREN LOVE PIZZA! The best way I have found to serve it is in individual bite size squares. This way smaller children can handle it without making a mess.
HOT DOGS !
Another true favorite of children. To make it a little more fun there are now all kinds of cool condiments on the market that are cool colors and flavors. Children just love purple catsup.
CUP CAKE CLOWNS
Fill a sugar cone ¾ full with cake batter, bake, ice and have the children use their favorite toppings to make eyes, a nose and be creative.
THE BIRTHDAY CAKE
Here is a suggestion that I have used for years. Instead of buying a large cake, get a smaller one, the size for your family. Use this cake to sing “HAPPY BIRTHDAY”, then serve individual cupcakes to the children.
This allows your family to have a private and special celebration together,
Unforgettable

Games…
Games are an important part of any child’s birthday party!
Here are just a few suggestions for your next celebration:
HOT POTATO
A classic game. Instead of using a potato use a ball. Have the children sit around in a circle. Have the children roll the ball to each other as fast as they can. When the whistle blows the one with the ball is out. The child left with the ball is the winner.
PIN THE NOSE ON THE CLOWN / PIN THE TAIL ON THE DINASAUR
Why not take a classic game like pin the tail on the donkey and give it a new twist. You can print what you need on your home computer.
MUSICAL CHAIRS
Another classic party game. Line up chairsback to back in a line, with enough chairs for each child except one. Play some of your child’s favorite music as the children move around the chairs. When the music stops, children are to sit as fast as possible in the closest chair. The child left standing is out. After each round a chair is removed, the player left at the end of the game is the winner
BE SURE to have prizes for for all involved. .
BALLOON RELAY RACE
Before the party inflate about 3 balloons per child. Divide the guests into 2 teams. Each kid runs from a pre-determined point, sits on a balloon, pops it, and runs back to tag the next runner. The team that finishes first is the winner.
